More on SnellvilleSnellville

Developed by Thomas Snell back in 1874, Snellville has a rich history with hidden gems and secret voyages. Thomas Snell and James Sawyer, 17-year-old friends from London secretly planned a voyage to the New World. But, Snell's parents wouldn't allow him to leave after finding out about the plan but Sawyer ended up going anyway. Snell eventually made it out there and the two of them headed west. Around 1879, the two started their own general store called Snell and Sawyers. After the partnership dissolves, Sawyer kept the old store but Snell built a new store of granite and building supplies. In 1885, Sawyer open Snellville's first post office and served as Postmaster from the back of his store. However, Snell died at age just 39 in 1896 and Sawyer was forced into early retirement due to a loss of his eyesight. He died in 1948 at the age of 91 but the Snell family remains prominent in the Atlanta area today. Snellville received its charter from the General Assembly of Georgia in 1923.

From Snellville Residents:

I have lived around Snellville for just about all my life. I have been here since I was a baby and liked going to the schools that are in this area. My high school is not the best when it comes to the term, equality, but I have learned to live with it. Overall, I do like Snellville, I think it's a great place to live.
